Building a Capsule Wardrobe

This year I decided to invest and start building a more solid capsule wardrobe. What is a capsule wardrobe? Well let's chat about that for a sec! One thing you will learn quickly about me is that I not only love a good bargain, but I would rather buy one really nice thing and spend a little more money on that item, than spend a bunch of money on pieces that might only last me one season. Cue capsule wardrobe 💡 I am sure by now you have heard about this buzzword everyone is using right now but it doesn't have to be this big investment that everyone makes it out to seem. You can still shop smart without breaking the bank and leave with great pieces that are going to last you not one but multiple seasons.

This past year I tried to build (if not complete) my fall/winter capsule wardrobe once the annual Nordstrom Sale rolled around. I feel like I sound like a broken record or like every other blogger who talks about this sale every year, but I have shopped the sale for a few years now and I honestly swear by it. The staples I purchase during that period have lasted me for at LEAST two years and I am not exaggerating.

But don't feel the need to have to buy it all. First I would recommend creating a budget. There is no point in spending money you shouldn't be, so figure that out first so you are not likely to go overboard. Next I would figure out what you actually need from looking at your current closet. Take advantage of one season coming to a close to get rid of clothes you no longer wear and donate them. Then based off what you have cleaned out of your current closet, decide which items are the most important to you to purchase. I prefer to stock up on the basics and find some good neutral pieces that will go with other pieces I already have. For example, I love snagging a good sweater, a cardigan or two, a couple pairs of jeans, booties, boots, etc.

I am sharing three different looks below of my current capsule wardrobe that have been, and will continue to be on repeat all fall and winter long. I have also linked everything that I can in case you are interested in any of my favorite staple pieces from this season.

Look #1

sweater // jeans - linked a similar pair (and cheaper) because mine are sold out! // hat // booties // apple watch band

Look #2

Look #3

My favorite part about the three looks above is that they can all be interchangeable. Each piece can be swapped out for another, and in doing so, it gives you a completely different look! My number one piece of advice if you take anything away from this post is to invest in your staples. They will last you for a least two seasons if not more. I hope you found this post helpful. As always, feel free to shoot me an email with any specific questions you may have. I love hearing from y'all! 🖤Stay uniquely you.

with love,

~Katie
