The Macharita | A Twist on a Classic Skinny Mezcal Margarita

Well, it's official, airport drinking rules are in full effect here at the Mach household. We are trying our best to hold out to at least Wednesday or Thursday each week to pour a glass of wine, crack open a cold one or make whatever our drink of choice is, but man, this quarantine is sure making that hard to do ๐Ÿ˜ฌAnyone else find themselves drinking a little more than normal during all of this? I mean what day is it REALLY anyways? As Jimmy Buffet says, "it's 5 o'clock somewhere!" ๐Ÿน

Keeping this blog post short and sweet today because Coop and I have finally mastered our take on a skinny Mezcal margarita. We had them in Cabo on our first anniversary trip and we vowed to master them once we got back and the weather started warming up. We have officially named it the "Macharita" ๐Ÿ˜œ

First off, if you have never had Mezcal tequila before, you have got to give it a try! It is a little on the "smoky" side in terms of flavor but it is so so yummy in my opinion. Anyways, below is our recipe. Feel free to tweak it and make it your very own!

The best part about margaritas in general is that there are SO many ways to make them ๐Ÿ™Œ๐ŸปIf you end up giving our Macharita recipe a try, be sure to tag me so I can see! I don't know about you but I can't wait to enjoy these with friends and family all summer long once we are free to be within six feet of each other again. Cheers, y'all!

Ingredients

  • 4 oz of Mezcal (or any tequila of your choice!)

  • 2 oz of Triple Sec (we use the Bols brand)

  • 1 oz of Orange Juice

  • 3 oz of freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4 limes) - Linking this lime squeezer from Target if you don't already have one!

  • 2 T of Agave Nectar (we bought ours from Target)

  • 4 oz of cold water (you could also sub some sparkling water here too!)

  • Tajin or salt to garnish the rim of your glass!

Directions

  • Squeeze the halved limes (you should have eight total halves) into your cocktail shaker or measuring cup

  • Garnish your glasses prior to serving. I personally like the combination of the Tajin with the Mezcal tequila but I know not everyone does! Rub the rim with a cut lime and garnish with Tajin or salt and then a pretty lime slice to top it all off!

  • Combine all ingredients into your measuring cup and then pour that concoction over ice into your cocktail shaker

  • Shake well (for about 30 seconds or so), pour over ice and enjoy!

P.S. If you are looking for some quarantine entertainment, come watch Coop and I's third #WMCD IGTV episode on how we make these Macharitas at home! You can watch the episode HERE.

with love,

~Katie
