Travel Guide | Savannah, GA

Before I get into our trip details, I want to first start off by saying, “take the trip.” This girls weekend getaway to Savannah was pretty spontaneous and not a TON of planning went into it to be completely honest, but it turned out to be one of the best girl trips I have had in a very long time. I challenge you to call up one of your longest girlfriends and plan a trip together. It doesn’t have to be super glamorous but a trip like this reminded me just how special these two friendships are to me. They are some of my longest relationships and Kelsie and Emily know more about me than I feel like I know about myself sometimes 😜 You will always be able to come up with an excuse for why you shouldn’t take the trip (too expensive, not enough time, too far away, etc.) but try your best to figure out a way to make it work, because one day you’ll look back and wish you had just taken the trip.

Where We Stayed | The Alida Hotel

Alright, let's get into our trip itinerary a bit! We ended up staying two nights at a boutique hotel called The Alida. This spot could not get a higher recommendation from me–seriously the best. From the moment you walk through the doors, the smell of the hotel alone makes you want to never leave. Sounds dramatic but if you have ever been to this spot, you know exactly what I am talking about.

As soon as Kelsie and I checked in, we were greeted with our very own Alida water bottles. One of my favorite parts of this hotel was that on each floor they provide their guests with a snack station that has some fresh fruit and a water station for you to refill your water bottles (it also included some yummy sparkling water on tap that I thoroughly enjoyed each day - hah!). It is little details like that that go a long way in my book.

The hotel itself is located just a couple blocks away from Savannah’s City Market, which is where we spent the majority of our weekend and where most of our recommendations came from.  Everything was within walking distance of the hotel as well, so there really was no need for a car which was SO nice and extremely convenient. The location couldn’t have been more perfect, especially if you are wanting to explore Savannah’s City Market area.

Trip Itinerary

Day One

Kelsie and I were the first to arrive in Savannah so after we got checked into our rooms, we went up to the rooftop bar at the hotel to enjoy a cocktail/mocktail and a little snack to hold us over until dinner. The Alida’s rooftop bar, The Lost Square, has an amazing view of the river and the City Market area. The drinks and charcuterie board weren’t half bad either 😉 After we got settled at the hotel, we decided to check out City Market for a bit and walk around. That is where I first discovered probably my favorite cocktails of the entire weekend, a ‘champagne pop’ from The Grove. Highly recommend The Grove for a pre-dinner cocktail or just a beverage in general to walk around with. Oh yeah, another plus to this adorable city is that you can walk around outside with your drinks, so a lot of spots offer cocktails to go, which was really fun.

After we shopped a little, we came back to the hotel to get ready and then Emily finally got into town and joined us for the rest of our trip! We all got ready and headed to The Tavern which is located underneath the Olde Pink House. It is all the same restaurant, just a different vibe for a late night meal. I highly recommend this spot and strongly encourage making a reservation if you can. We didn’t have a reservation on Friday night so we had a bit of a wait, but let me tell you that the wait was 100% worth it. If you go, I highly recommend their “southern sushi” as an appetizer. It was SO good. We stayed out until 11 p.m. that night enjoying a nice long meal, so after dinner, we just walked back to the hotel and got some sleep. We didn’t get to do this, but another recommendation people had was to get a tour of the Olde Pink House. So if you ever go for lunch or an early dinner, ask to get a tour as well! We heard it was cool, and were sad we never got to check it out.

The ravioli dish at The Olde Pink House was to die for. Highly recommend this dinner dish!

Day Two

You know it wouldn’t be a trip without a trip to take class at Pure Barre 😜 I somehow convinced Kelsie and Emily to take class with me Saturday morning. The gal working the front desk actually gave us a TON of great local recommendations and actually convinced us to change our dinner reservations for that night and I am SO glad she did. She also recommended that we do the “Savannah for Morons” comedy trolley tour. Although we didn’t get around to doing that, it sounded amazing! So I wanted to mention that here as a potential recommendation if you ever go.

After class, we walked to the Paris Market for coffee which was one of my favorite stops of the entire trip - probably because it reminded me so much of Paris 😂 They had wonderful coffee and great pastries. We sat outside and enjoyed the morning there for a bit. After breakfast, we ended up walking around some more and did a little shopping. There are SO many great local shops within walking distance, so we sort of just wandered for a bit.

After our morning, we went back to the hotel to freshen up and got ready for lunch. We ended up grabbing lunch at a spot called The Treylor Park - a fun little eclectic joint. I highly recommend sitting on their patio out back if it is nice enough. I also highly recommend getting their ‘treylor park nachos’ aka loaded waffle fries 😋 Such a unique spot and their drinks were great too.

After lunch, we drove out to Wormsloe Historic Site aka the most gorgeous stretch of candler oak trees you will EVER see. You do have to pay $10 to take pictures, explore the trails, to visit their visitor center, etc. but honestly it was worth it in my book. Not a make or break if you can’t take a quick visit to this spot, but something fun to fit in if you can! A great instagrammable spot 😉

After our afternoon of lunch and the Wormsloe, we ended up driving back to the hotel to get ready for our last night in SAV. We originally had dinner reservations for Husk but the sales associate at Pure Barre had told us that it was pretty overrated and that she was underwhelmed with her meal when she went. Since a local’s opinion is the best opinion, we took her word for it and decided to go to The Public Kitchen instead. This restaurant doesn’t take reservations but we didn’t have to wait long before we were seated. We just got a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. HIGHLY recommend this spot. Our drinks and meals were SO GOOD. I had the shrimp and grits and it was probably my favorite meal of the entire weekend.

After dinner, we walked over to the Perry Hotel to try and experience their rooftop bar that is called The Peregrin. Another spot that came highly recommended, but unfortunately we think because of the cold weather, it was closed for the night (such a bummer!). We ended up grabbing a drink at their hotel lobby bar which was still fun! After our cocktails, we ended the night at Leopold's Ice Cream which is another must stop if you are ever in Savannah. Even if there is a line, it is well worth the wait. So so good–it’s no surprise this spot has been around for over a century (since 1919 to be exact😱)!

Day Three

We only had a brief morning on Sunday in Savannah before we had to catch our flight back to Kansas City, but we still made the most of it. We ended up waking up early, checked out of our hotel and then headed to The Coffee Fox for coffee. Another great local coffee shop that’s located right across the street from The Paris Market. If you ever go, I highly recommend their Horchata latte. After we grabbed coffee we drove over to Forsyth Park to walk around with our coffee for a bit before our long day of traveling home. This. Park. Is. Gorgeous. It isn’t super big but it is absolutely breathtaking and so peaceful. Also, there is a Collins Quarter restaurant located within the park, so that would be a great spot to go and grab some brunch. This breakfast/brunch spot is listed underneath my ‘honorable mentions’ list but multiple people recommended it and said how good it was. If we would have had one more full day there, I would have loved to have checked it out!

 Honorable Mentions

Unfortunately there were a lot of spots we didn’t get to check out, but I would 1000% recommend adding Savannah to your 2022 travel list if you have never been. This town has so much to offer and would be the perfect spot for a bachelorette trip if you are a bride-to-be. Listing out some other recommendations below that came highly recommended if you ever go that you can also check-out! If you have any specific questions about my trip to Savannah, GA, please ask!
